Breakfast Success!

DSC_0070On Monday, August 18, Kona Pacific made history by becoming the first public school in Hawai‘i to offer universal breakfast in the classroom to all students, regardless of their ability to pay.

Our pioneering work in school nutrition was featured on the home page of West Hawaii Today, Honolulu Star-Advertiser, and Honolulu Civil Beat.

Executive Director Chris Hecht was interviewed about Breakfast on Hawaii Public Radio’s Town Square and The Conversation.

DSC_0218 We are pleased and honored to serve our community in this way, and we are so grateful to all who joined us for this momentous occasion: Senator Jill Tokuda, Charter School Commission Executive Director Tom Hutton, and Hawai’i Public Charter Schools Network Executive Director Lynn Finnegan helped us to serve the first breakfast!

In addition, we were honored to welcome Representative Nicole Lowen, Hawai‘i Appleseed Center for Law andEconomic Justice Deputy Director Gavin Thornton, Lydia Clemens, Andrea McTamaney, and Dawn Zierk from Hawaii Community Foundation, Joy Barua from Kaiser Permanente, Ross Wilson, Jr. from Current Events, Christine Bean, and Maureen Datta from Adaptations, Inc.
