Important Start of School News

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Due to continuing developments with the COVID-19 pandemic and Hawaii public and charter schools’ responses to these developments, including ours, the Kona Pacific Governing Board (GB) has decided that Kona Pacific will implement distance learning for all grades for quarter 1 of this school year, with our first day of school remaining Monday, August 17.
Several important considerations came up during the GB discussions on this important subject, including that of having certain students on campus in quarter 1, such as students being trained for distance learning by teachers the first week of school, students with special needs as determined by their teams, and students being assessed by teachers. The GB will also be considering the possibility of allowing our kindergarten students to begin their blended learning experience earlier than quarter 2 under certain conditions.
The first week of school, August 17-20, will look different than the weeks following as we roll out our new distance learning program for all students and establish new learning rhythms and processes. Quarter 1 will also be different than quarter 4 of last year in how we will be able to work with our students in distance learning mode.
Your child’s kindergarten or class teacher will contact you about what will happen the first week of school, and concerning this quarter’s distance learning plan for your child.
Please feel free to contact Phil (philc@kppcs.org) with any questions, suggestions, etc. about this new development. While we are all disappointed that we will have to delay being able to work in person with most of our students, we look forward to partnering with you to create the best possible learning experience for all of our students in the current conditions.
